12th Annual North Fair Oaks Community Festival

Queen of the Festival Scholarships

The Queen of the Festival scholarship program announces its seventh year of supporting young women in furthering their higher education. Four high school seniors will compete for the Queen title and $22,000 in scholarships.
 
The Queen of the Festival scholarship program promotes community service and it is open to high school senior women who will be attending university. Applicants must live or attend school in San Mateo County; be university-bound with excellent academic and community service credentials; and must submit a community involvement essay. Applicants are evaluated and four outstanding finalists are selected by a committee compromised of community leaders. The application deadline for the Queen of the Festival scholarship is Friday, April 5, 2013 at 5 p.m.

• * The Queen will receive a $10,000 scholarship.
• * One princess will receive a $6,000 scholarship.
• * One princess will receive a $4,000 scholarship.
• * One princess will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Background

The North Fair Oaks Community Festival is a day-long event on August 25, 2013. The scholarships are awarded by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office from the proceeds of the North Fair Oaks Community Festival. All proceeds support the Sheriff's Office in providing county youth with year-round, school-based programs such as DARE, Sheriff’s Activities League, Explorer Posts and STAR camp.

This is the seventh year that the Queen of the Festival Scholarship program is being offered. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the festival, support the Sheriff’s youth programs and to honor local girls that have demonstrated commitment to serving their community.
