Background

The North Fair Oaks Community Festival is a day-long event on August 17, 2014. The scholarships are awarded by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office from the proceeds of the North Fair Oaks Community Festival. All proceeds support the Sheriff's Office in providing county youth with year-round, school-based programs such as DARE, Sheriff’s Activities League, Explorer Posts and STAR Camp. This is the eighth year that the Queen of the Festival Scholarship program is being offered. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the festival, support the Sheriff’s youth programs and to honor local girls that have demonstrated commitment to serving their community. Since its inception, the Queen of the Festival Scholarship program has given out a total of $123,000 in scholarships. The finalists have raised over $159,000 that will benefit Sheriff's Youth Programs.
