QUEEN OF THE FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Queen of the Festival Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholarship, community service, a short, written essay and an interview with the scholarship committee. Winners will be determined by their success in supporting the festival through fund raising for the Sheriff’s Youth Program Fund.

BACKGROUND:
The North Fair Oaks Community Festival is a day-long event on August 24, 2008. (To learn more about the festival, please go to www.northfairoaksfestival.org.) The scholarship is awarded by the Sheriff’s Youth Program Fund, a non-profit organization that provides county youth with year-round, school-based programs such as DARE, Sheriff’s Activities League, Explorer Posts, STAR camp.

This is the second year that the Queen of the Festival Scholarship program is being offered. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the festival and the Sheriff’s Youth Program Fund.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Must be a high school senior
• Must intend to attend an accredited university, college or institution of higher learning
• Must have performed voluntary community service

APPLICATIONS:
A completed application package must include:
• Application Form
• Essay on community involvement, 200 – 250 words in length in answer to the following questions:
1. How do I view the North Fair Oaks Community?
2. What have I done and will continue to do to improve it?
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

DEADLINE:
Completed applications must be received by mail, fax or email by 5:00 PM on Monday, March 31, 2008.
